When I wrote Beyond Farming 2 I set down several issues eg Planning, Capital Gains Tax, Infrastructure Levy and Affordable Homes.
Nothing really has happened. There are either no answers or negative answers. These all remain serious barriers.
Meantime a milestone is coming up in little over a year, with the conclusion of our five year Organic Stewardship Agreement due 31 December 2010 and me saying I am not going to caretake the farm after then.
We have had some very interesting discussions recently with some local people about setting up a CSA scheme but the real problem is that if only one family is allowed to live here then presumably it has to be another family (not us) and so we are now planning to look for a tenant.
So this doesn’t go Beyond Farming at all – just yet – and what we have to hope for is that we find a tenant who likes the sound of our plans in the medium term.
If you are looking for a farm to rent please come back in the near future as I intend to put more on about letting.
